Stone Pine
Our young Stone Pine trees make a great tabletop Christmas tree as they are a mini evergreens shrub!
-
Location: Place it in a spot that gets full sun for at least 6 hours of partial direct or bright indirect sunlight a day.
If kept indoors, a south-facing or west-facing window is best.
Avoid: Strong, direct midday sun if you are keeping it indoors and it's suddenly moved from a shadier spot. Keep it away from heat sources like radiators or air vents.
-
Rule of Thumb: Stone Pines prefer the soil to dry out a bit between waterings—they hate "wet feet."
When to Water: Stick your finger into the soil. Wait until the top 1 to 2 inches (2.5 to 5 cm) of soil feel completely dry.
How to Water: Water deeply until you see water draining out of the bottom of the pot. Always empty the drainage saucer after about 15 minutes, so the roots are not sitting in water.
In Winter: The tree's growth slows, so you will need to water much less frequently.
-
Stone Pine prefer a light, well-draining soil. Adding perlite and/or sand to a standard indoor plant mix will add aeration and help with drainage.
During the growing season (typically spring and summer), you can fertilize your tree about once a month. In fall and winter, it’s best to reduce fertilizing or stop altogether.
